Rajkummar Rao is on cloud nine. The talented actor, who recently received the ‘Outstanding Achievement in Cinema’ award at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF), is on an all-time career high with the accolades and the kind of films that are coming his way. Interestingly, the award ceremony also witnessed the screening of one of his most critically-acclaimed films Trapped released this year. The selection of his latest film Newton, as India’s official entry for Oscar 2018, is yet another feather in his cap. The actor is planning to leave no stone unturned to make sure that film makes its mark in the race to the Oscars. In his latest tweet, the actor thanked his fans for their appreciation towards the film and stated how he was looking forward to the Oscar journey, “Thank you so much guys for all the love and appreciation for #Newton & my work. Now gearing up for #Oscars. We will def try hard,” he wrote.
In a recent interview, Rao said that he was planning to take all the necessary steps to ensure that his film got noticed prior to its journey to the Oscars, adding that he had made up his mind to take time off, “I understand, I have to be in America for a while and I am prepared to take time off. It is pointless to expect Newton to make the cut without our effort. We need to push our film to the furthest point possible,” he said in an interview to DNA. He also expressed his excitement about the critical appreciation for the film, in a media interaction, “I am so happy that cinema is going through so much change, especially this year. Content is finally getting its due. And the same kind of sincerity we have made Newton with, it’s resonating with the audience. And they could feel the sincerity and purity of the film.”
