The Ghoomar song in Padmavati, which got a record number of views within hours of its release and is trending in a big way on social media, was also the song that signified Deepika Padukone’s transition into the world of the legendary Rajput queen. Deepika vividly recalled the special significance of the song and how she got into the role of Padmavati with the song, “It was with the Ghoomar Song that I walked onto the set as Padmavati for the very first time. I will never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot and suddenly I felt a chill run through my body. It was almost as if Padmavati‘s soul had entered my body. That feeling still lingers and will continue for years to come,” Deepika revealed.

The actress who described it as one of the most difficult yet most fulfilling song sequences she had ever shot for, learned the dance form under the tutelage of renowned Ghoomar expert Jyothi D Tommaar, assistant director of the only authentic Ghoomar academy. While it takes years to master the extremely difficult dance form of Rajput women, Deepika had to pick up the steps within a matter of days. The traditional dance form also involves twirling in circles, leaving the onlookers mesmerized by the beautiful dance performance. Apparently Deepika did over 66 twirls while shooting for the song, adorned in heavy jewelry and the intricately designed heavy costumes which was a feat in itself.  Choreographed by Kruti Mahesh Midya and sung in the soulful voice of Shreya Ghoshal, with music by the maestro Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ghoomar has also become a huge hit with the Rajput community with the hashtag #PadmavatiRajputPride trending on Twitter. Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ is all set for a worldwide release on the 1st December 2017.
