The celebrated resort where the wedding is supposed to take place was reverberating with dhol beats throughout the day, as speculative stories continue to make rounds about the most anticipated wedding in Bollywood.
The much speculated wedding of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma has finally taken place. The much in love couple got married at a private wedding ceremony this morning in Italy at the grand resort of Borgo Finocchieto, one of the most scenic and breath-taking locales in Italy, approximately one hour away from Florence’s main airport. The 800-year old luxury heritage resort with verdant greenery situated in the medieval town of Tuscany, was recently in the news for hosting former US President Barrack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama in May 2017. Anushka tweeted about the news a few minutes ago, “Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans and well-wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.”
The spectacular resort of Borgo Finochietto where the two exchanged wedding vows in a Hindu traditional ceremony, consists of five village houses which can accommodate only up to 44 guests in 22 luxury rooms, placed around a central piazza. Visitors can rent out nine bedrooms in the main house for $7,000 per night, or all 22 bedrooms across all five buildings for $15,200 per night, with a minimum three-night reservation. Apparently it was the limitation of 44 guests that compelled Anushka and Virat to limit the celebrity presence for their wedding to a handful few relatives and close friends.
Sources reveal that filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who was instrumental in launching Anushka Sharma in the 2008 Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and was the first to know about the wedding plans, was also instrumental in choosing the destination of Borgo Finochietto.
Reports suggest that the property opens for tourists only in summer but Virat and Anushka who had chosen it as “the destination” for their wedding, convinced the property owner, to open it exclusively for a week to facilitate their wedding celebrations. According to sources, filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who was instrumental in launching Anushka Sharma in the 2008 Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and was the first to know about the wedding plans, was instrumental in choosing the destination of Borgo Finochietto. The famed filmmaker had also chosen Italy as the secret destination when he got married to Rani Mukerji on April 21, 2014. It is a known fact that Aditya Chopra has been a great confidante to Anushka over the years. Last year, the actress had managed to convince the filmmaker to arrange a special preview of Sultan for Virat Kohli, two days before its release. She wanted the ace cricketer to see the film since she was playing a sportswoman in it.
